Dawson's Legacy-Dawson's Legacy galloped Friday with trainer Rita
Schnitzler looking on. "I think there are several top horses in the
Juvenile," she said. "I know that almost everyone picks either Favorite
Trick or Grand Slam, but I think Souvenir Copy might do better than either
one."
Double Honor-The Thoroughbred Corporation's Double Honor completed his
preparation for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile by galloping around the Santa
Anita track. Trainer D. Wayne Lukas is happy with the way this son of Gone
West approaches the race. "He's doing very, very well," said Lukas. "We're
going to change his style a little bit this time. I don't think he needs
the lead and he probably couldn't get it anyhow."
Grand Slam-Baker, Cornstein and Mack's Grand Slam, who is the 5-2 second
choice in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, galloped Friday morning at Santa
Anita Park. Trainer D. Wayne Lukas is very confident about the chances of
this Gone West offspring. "We're very optimistic about this one-we love
him. We're going to lead him over there with a great deal of confidence in
the best race of the day."
Johnbill-Mike Pegram's Johnbill looked eager to race as he galloped 1 3/8
miles Friday.
Pegram said the colt's namesake, John Bill MacGarrah of Princeton, Ind., is
unable to attend because his wife is ill. MacGarrah, who is in his 70s, was
Pegram's partner in his first horse and a longtime friend of Pegram's
father.
Nationalore-Kwon Mung Cho's California-bred jogged around the main track
again Friday morning. Owned, trained and bred by Cho, the son of Video
Ranger would be the first maiden to ever win the Breeders' Cup Juvenile if
he delivers an improbable upset tomorrow under veteran Eddie Delahoussaye.
"It's an outside chance, but who knows, you never know," said Delahoussaye.
"I rode the horse for Mr. Cho at Del Mar and since I didn't have anything
in this race I said I'd ride him. I think if Grand Slam and Favorite Trick
run their race they'll be the top contenders."
Delahoussaye will handle Vivid Angel in the Juvenile Fillies and Magellan
in the Mile. He has seven previous Breeders' Cup winners, including A.P.
Indy in the '92 Classic.
Souvenir Copy-The Norfolk Stakes winner galloped while owner/breeder John
Mabee watched. Trainer Bob Baffert said he loved the way the colt-as well
as his other three Breeders' Cup starters-were going into the race.
"They look good. They're happy," he said. "You want them happy. Happy
horses run fast."
Time Limit-Overbrook Farm's Time Limit galloped at Santa Anita Friday and
will ship to Hollywood Park early Saturday morning. Trainer D. Wayne Lukas
says Time Limit will need to run a career-best race to win the Juvenile.
"This gelding has earned his way into the race, but he'd have to really
move forward to win this one. He's trained well, though."
