I have tried such things as removing hay, giving a short blow, and I am not a believer in vitamin build-ups. What do you do? If you have an opinion or experience with a different type of event, please share your thoughts and opinions.

Roger how long is the race? reducing the roughage too.5% per 100 kg one to 2 days before a race will reduce gut fill and reduce the heat produced and its last feed about 6 to 8 hours before the race and a short sprint say 200 to 400m siuts some horses and not others so you will have to guage that your self I feed a vitamin and mineral supplement to all my horses in work not on the day I doubt it would make such difference What is your climate like eg humid or dry? once a horse is race fit it doesnt require the work it took to get it fit you just need to maintain fitness you can also increas the grain intake by 10% 2 to 3 days before a race if the distance is from 1600m to 300 m but carefull to avoid grain overload hope this gives u some ideas cya goodluck
