Jake it is hard to use a cook book approach to getting horses fit, you need to consider the stage of training, how far the race is away, the horses running style and soundness, and on and on. With that said I'll give you my opinion 2 months of long slow gallops. During the second month I would like start slow breezes for a furlong during the gallop. When they seem fit you would work them 3 or 4 furlongs until they are handling this then step it up to 5 and 6 furlongs. I usually like one good work 110 farther than the race about two weeks out then maybe a five furlong then depending on how nervous the horse a three furlong a day before the race. Read the racing form and you will see a thousand approaches and all are sucessfull some of the time.
