The Subject: Saintly Breaks Down

Saintly, Australia's "horse from heaven" has broken down. He bowed a tendon last Tuesday, which has been described by some as "a national tragedy". It isn't often in Australia that news of an injury to a racehorse makes the news on the all the channels, but Saintly did, because he is held with much the same affection in Australia as was the great Cigar. Saintly will be out for at least 12 months, and at this stage is not certain to ever race again. His trainer Bart Cummings is determined to get the horse back, but admits that Saintly, should he race again, may never be the same horse. Many feel that Saintly was just starting to reach his peak, and that we hadn't seen the best of him. I think this is true, I believe had he not fallen ill in Japan that he would have won the Japan Cup easily. It's been a pretty sad week for Australian racing. I have numerous photographs of Saintly in stock, should any "Saintly Lovers" wish to see them or buy them, please let me know. A copy of the Melbourne cup photograph can be seen on the following www page, along with other Australian racehorses: https://www.ausracing.net.au/frontpag/pics/pics.htm (The Australian Racing and Breeding Homepage).
