Melyssa..Secretariat was bred to a mare of Appaloosa breeding. Her name was Leola. She was a "test breeding" mare to the famous race horse. From this breeding was born a colt named "First Secretary". Leola was supposed to be a grade mare. However, once the foal was born her registration papers were brought forth. A few mares bred to First Secretary actually show Secretatiat as the Grandsire on the papers of their foals. Other foals had to be registered through a hardship clause, not showing Secretariat as the grandsire. Only thoroughbred is stated . I owned a mare out of one of this type of breedings. My mare was sired by First Secretary out of a well bred Appaloosa mare by the name of Go Three Roses. I hope this little bit of background is of some value. First Secretatary was born Nov. 15, 1974. He weighed 126lbs and stood 9 hands, 2 inches at birth. He was a bright chestnut like his sire. He had a large white blanket over his hips. Striped hooves, mottled skin and white scelra around the eye. Leola was 13 at the time of breeding. Her breeding goes back directly to the Indian heritage of the Nez Perce.
