Ian Jory - Personal History
Ian Jory was born in England and worked as an assistant trainer to
several large trainers over a period of seven years, including Sir
Mark Prescott and Jeremy Hindley, before emigrating to the US in
1983. During those seven years, he also worked brief spells in
Australia, Germany, France and Ireland before settling in
California as assistant trainer to John Gosden. While with Gosden,
he worked with such notable runners as Royal Heroine, Bates Motel
and Zoffany. He took out a trainer's licence in 1984 and won a
$50,000 allowance race at Hollywood Park with his first starter. He
went out on his own as a public trainer in 1986 with a stable of
five horses.
